Region Lore
Founding Story
In the late 1800s, as the American frontier began to shrink, a group of ambitious settlers sought new opportunities in uncharted lands. Among them was Uncle Roger Rose, a rugged frontiersman with a vision of building a community free from the corruption and lawlessness that plagued the established territories.
After years of searching for the right place, Rose and his followers stumbled upon a secluded valley in the unforgiving region of New Austin, a harsh and untamed wilderness. The land was fertile enough to support agriculture, with hidden natural resources promising potential wealth, and its remoteness offered protection from outside forces.
Uncle, declared this land "Rose County," named in honor of the man whose leadership had brought the settlers together. The county quickly became a haven for those seeking freedom from the oppressive reach of Eastern industrialists, crooked lawmen, and the remnants of the Civil War.
With dreams of prosperity and independence, settlers flocked to Rose County to forge new lives, eager to live by their own rules and build a future away from the chaos of the rest of the country.
Future Prospects
As Rose County began to flourish, its founder, Roger Rose—known to most as Uncle Rose—grew restless. A veteran of the Civil War, Uncle Rose had seen firsthand how corruption, greed, and unchecked power could destroy even the strongest of communities. He had built Rose County to be different: a place of freedom, honor, and self-determination. But as the county prospered, Uncle Rose's ambitions grew. His vision of a society free from the control of the powerful few wasn't something that should remain confined to the rugged lands of New Austin. In his mind, the ideals of Rose County could serve as a blueprint for a new kind of America—one where ordinary people shaped their own futures.
Uncle Rose began to speak openly of expansion. His time in the war had given him not only tactical knowledge but also an understanding of how to unite people under a common cause. He saw the fractured states—still healing from the scars of the Civil War—as ripe for transformation. “Why should Rose County stand alone?” he would ask his followers. "We are the future, not just for ourselves, but for all who seek freedom from tyranny." His plan was bold: to expand Rose County’s influence beyond New Austin, spreading the values of self-reliance, justice, and independence across the neighboring territories and eventually, the entire country.
To Uncle Rose, this wasn’t just about claiming land—it was about revolutionizing the nation. He began assembling a group of skilled settlers, ex-soldiers, and pioneers, each one loyal to his cause. They were prepared to face the dangers ahead, not only from the wild frontier but from those who would oppose his vision of freedom. Uncle Rose’s dream of expansion was more than conquest; it was a mission to reshape the American frontier, creating a network of like-minded communities that could one day stand as a united force, challenging the old ways and establishing a new order—built not by elites, but by the people themselves.
